The 2012 Kansas 8-Man Football Coaches Association All-Star games presented two very different results on Saturday in Beloit.

In the Division I game, the West used a strong defense and a big second half to blank the East 36-0.

South Gray running back Coulter Croft carried four times for 90 yards and two touchdowns including a 1-yard, second-quarter score that proved to be the only points the West would need.

West quarterback Seth Filbert (Macksville) threw for 78 yards and connected with Lincoln’s Wyatt Schroeder on two touchdowns passes.

Lakeside-Downs standout Miles Thomas led the East with 77 yards rushing on 22 carries.

The Division II game lit up the scoreboard as many would expect in an all-star game as the East bested the West, 52-24.

Moscow speedster Osvaldo Granillo returned the opening kickoff 73 yards for a touchdown, and Dighton’s Guy Fullmer added a short touchdown run to give the West an early 16-0 lead.

That’s when the East woke up.

The East responded with 20 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 20-16 halftime lead, and then added 26 more in the third quarter to pull away 46-16.

The East rally was led by three former Baileyville B&B Falcons; quarterback Eric Huerter, fullback Cody Heiman, and running back Mitch Engelken.

Engelken rushed 20 times for 233 yards and three touchdowns, while Huerter threw for 78 yards and four scores.  The duo’s performance provided some consolation after they each missed B&B’s state championship game loss to Thunder Ridge due to injury.

Heiman, who has signed to play collegiately at Washburn, rushed for 73 yards and hauled in a 17-yard touchdown pass.

Huerter also hooked up with fellow Twin Valley Leaguer Jonathan Keating of Frankfort on two touchdown passes.

Fullmer’s two rushing touchdowns led the West.
